Review: Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas

Want to read it now? Order it here!

The fourth book in Sarah J. Maas’s Throne of Glass series might be the best one yet. While Queen of Shadows had a slow start, this is the book where everything I want from the series started to come together. With fun new characters, a steamy slow burn romance, and a fast-paced plot, I could not put this book down!

A Slow Start

To be honest, I had a hard time getting into this book. The beginning was SO SLOW. I mean, it was rewarding in its slowness – we get to meet some sweet new characters. These characters are all female and all badass: Lysandra, a courtesan and Celaena’s former rival. Nesryn, a fighter and skilled archer. Elide, a quiet woman ready to overcome the abuse she has faced her entire life. Getting to know these girls was fun, but perhaps took up time.

However, once the plot picked up, I couldn’t put this book down. There were so many twists and turns, but not too many that my head was left spinning. Everything was easy to understand and keep track of.

Favorite Moments

Spoilers ahead! Wow, there were some great moments in QoS. The slow burn between Rowan and Aelin was intense and I was so happy that he was reintroduced into the story at an early point in the book. Manon’s character development is ON POINT and she remains my favorite character. I cannot wait to see more interaction between Manon and Dorian, who are by far my two favorites in the series. (Rowan and Aelin’s romance is so freakin’ sexy though. So perhaps I ship them even harder.)

It’s only the slow beginning that causes me to rate this book at 4 stars. Otherwise, there was nothing but love for Queen of Shadows.

Get it on Amazon for $7.

Queen of Shadows (Throne of Glass, #4)Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Queen of Shadows has a slow start, but the new characters introduced are so fun. Furthermore, it’s amazing to finally see all of the great characters meet one another. The end is so satisfying, and once the action picked up in the middle, I couldn’t put this book down. If the beginning had focused a little less on introducing new people and a little more on the plot, I would have been completely obsessed. Still, I think this is my favorite one in the series so far.

I can see that. Her books have some “meh” moments for me and aren’t for everyone! Her characters draw me back in again and again though!
